A Kane in the Backside

ANYONE who enters the world of professional

wrestling knows that at one point in their career they're going to be stuck in an awful storyline.

UNHAPPY FAMILIES . . .  Kane and Lita

But spare a thought for poor old Kane, who continually seems to escape one dreadful angle only to be plunged straight into another.

There have been too many to list here although the star's career low undoubtedly came in 2002 when, during a world title feud with Triple H, his opponent accused him of rape, murder and necrophilia.

That infamous "Katie Vick" storyline was rightly rounded on by the WWE's critics and many inside the federation now admit it was a disaster.

But the last few weeks on Raw have shown that while Vince McMahon and his writers may have owned up to past mistakes, they certainly haven't learnt from them.

If you've not been watching here's a quick summary of what Kane has been up to . . .

Deciding he needed to have a child, the Big Red Machine picked out WWE Diva Lita as the perfect mother-to-be.

Kane knew he didn't have a chance with the stunner though, as she'd just got back together with Matt Hardy – the love of her life.

But rather than trying to charm her away from her man, or use his celebrity status and muscular physique to attract another woman, he simply started beating the hell out of Matt and told Lita he'd only stop if she slept with him.

As she explained to Stacy Keibler this week: "I just thought I was doing what was right. He said he wasn't going to stop hurting Matt until I did it."

Kane later came to the ring for an interview with Jim Ross where he revealed further details of his dastardly plan, including the ludicrous claim that he took "every precaution to make sure she would get pregnant".

So despite the federation's own website stating that "actions you will not see WWE characters portray are murder, rape or robbery", we watched one of their biggest stars boasting about forcing a woman to have sex with him.

While this is no different to the recent EastEnders storyline where gangster Andy coerced Kat into bed by threatening to maim her husband Alfie, we feel it has no place in wrestling.

It can also do no good for Kane's career, especially since to come to a logical conclusion – if that's not a contradiction in terms – this pregnancy angle will have to drag on for the next eight months.

The monster actually had a great title match with Chris Benoit on Raw but sadly, like everything else he'll be involved with this year, it was overshadowed by Lita.

The bout was fought under rules where Chris could only win by submission, creating an entertaining contest where the odds were stacked so much in Kane's favour that it appeared he could win the title.

But immediately after tapping out to a Benoit Crossface, the star's fate was sealed when Lita came down to ringside for another badly acted segment between the pair.

So while Triple H will be challenging for the world title at this weekend's Vengeance PPV, Kane will instead take on Matt Hardy.

We've already seen him destroy the much smaller star – who according to Jim Ross has a "50/50 chance" of being the dad – and he's bound to do so again on Sunday.

straight to the top
