THERE wasn't a fall or a submission in sight as hundreds of wrestling fans got to grips with one of their heroes.
World Wrestling Entertainment superstar Kane - 7ft and 326lb - was in
Birmingham to greet fans ahead of last night's power-packed show at the
National Exhibition Centre.
And they all had just one word to describe their idol - awesome.
Kane, real name Glen Jacobs, from Tennessee, USA, was at the Woolworth store
at St Andrew's Retail Park, in Coventry Road, Bordesley Green, to sign
autographs.
Four hundred fans from all over the Midlands successfully applied for
tickets for the big encounter on a first come, first served basis, and then
queued for up to two hours to meet Kane, who holds the Extreme Champion
Wrestling title and has also featured in a horror movie.
Among those near the front were brother and sister Adam and Sarah Golding,
from Sheldon.
Sarah, aged 24, said: "I have been watching wrestling ever since the late
80s, ever since Hulk Hogan. It's just great."
Adam, aged 20, added: "It's just so exciting to watch."
There was also no shortage of younger fans present.
Eight-year-old Haider Malik, from Sparkhill, came with his dad Malik Khan,
aged 36, who said: "He's a big fan, ever since he was three or four. He
found out about this on the internet and so I had to queue for tickets from
8am to get here."
And Haider's verdict? "It was really good." Dan Spider, aged 27, who had
travelled from Oxford, said after meeting Kane: "It was awesome, really
good.
"I have been a fan all my life. It's the flamboyance, but also the skill,
that makes it so exciting."
